The proposed PSPO doesn't include powers to tackle Dangerous Dogs. Why is that?

These powers are not a replacement for existing legislation such as the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. They are intended to assist the Council in tacking anti-social behaviour involving dogs, such as dog fouling

Can I suggest an area for dogs to be excluded from or kept on leads?

Yes of course, however please bear in mind the PSPO is not intended to penalise responsible dog owners. When considering areas to exclude dogs and especially areas where dogs must be kept on leads, the Council has considered if an alternative public open space is available to exercise dogs, off lead, free of charge.

Why is there a maximum number of dogs a person can be in charge of in a public space?

To ensure that a person is able to remain in control of all their dogs at all times, including cleaning up any fouling, it is not practical or possible to do this with an excessive number of dogs. Historically this number has been set at 6, however we would welcome people's opinions on this number.

Does the PSPO banning dogs from certain areas apply to assistance dogs?

No, registered assistance dogs are not included in the order and can enter these areas.
