In July 2026, government announced their plans for Local Government Reorganisation in Lancashire. The decision was, subject to parliamentary approval, Lancashire would be spilt into four new unitary councils, replacing all 15 existing councils, including ours.
Since then a central government has announced there will be review of its local government reorganisation programme to make sure the process is robust, legally sound and aligned with its priorities.
