Council policies are the strategic link between the Council’s vision and values, pledges and outcomes and its day to day operations. In many cases, policies are critical to ensure the Council complies with its legislative and regulatory obligations and applicable standards.

At West Lancashire Borough Council (WLBC), we are always striving to improve the services we provide to our tenants and leaseholders. WLBC believes that none of its customers or their households should live in fear of violence from a current or former spouse or partner or any other member of their household.

The Policy covers tenants of the Council and those living with them. Employees who are experiencing domestic abuse will be supported in line with the Councils Domestic Abuse Policy.

This policy aims to:

  • Put the safety of the victim and their family first.
  • Create an environment where victims/survivors of domestic abuse feel that they can approach us and will be listened to.
  • Provide information and support to enable victims to make informed decisions about their lives.
  • To respond to any cases of abuse that may arise by working in partnership with relevant agencies.
  • Work in partnership to offer support to perpetrators of domestic abuse who recognise and seek to change their behaviour.

It is important that we gather our tenants and leaseholders views and feedback on the policy so we are able to include, where possible, any suggested changes.

We would really appreciate if you could give us some of your time to firstly review the draft policy which can be found here and in the documents section to the right of this page and, to give us your thoughts and feedback through the survey below.
