Consultation has concluded
In 2021, West Lancashire Borough Council consulted with the public about environmental issues. We asked the public to tell us what they wanted to see delivered in their community. Out of the options presented, the public told us their priorities were rewilding/wildlife friendly planting and tree planting.
As part of a wider programme to deliver these objectives, a project has been set up to create a number of Community Orchards in the Borough. Community orchards are excellent places for the community to come together and to enjoy free fresh fruit.
Orchards provide many other benefits such as creating a wildlife habitat where struggling pollinators can flourish and evidence shows that spending time outside in natural surroundings is known to have a positive impact on both our physical and mental wellbeing.
Trees can also help to improve air quality, as the trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to climate change
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Community Orchard consultation and shared their views about the shortlisted six potential sites in the Borough. Following analysis of the feedback from the public and residents in the vicinity of the sites, the final locations will be confirmed.

The orchards will be planted with a mixture of apple, pear and plum trees, and where possible we will use local varieties.
Depending on the size of the site, approximately six to 12 trees will be planted at 3.5 metre spacing. The trees will be regularly pruned to control the size so that you can easily pick the fruit.
Please spare 5 minutes of your time to give us your views, your feedback will be analysed to identify the final community orchards site locations.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey.
